David Reimer
PRINICIPAL INVESTIGATOR - UNIVERSITY OF ICELAND
I am professor of sociology of education at the University of Iceland (since January 2023). I also hold a part-time position at Aarhus University. My research focuses on questions related to inequalities in educational attainment. I am particularly interested in educational transitions - such as the transition from upper secondary education to higher education or the transition from compulsory school to the subsequent schooling alternatives. In much of my research I have emphasized the importance of horizontal stratification in education (such as field of study choices or the choice of universities vs. university colleges). I am currently principal investigator for two major research projects: "EDUCHANGE, Changing Inequality at Educational Transitions" (ERC consolidator grant) and "Reducing Inequality in Access to Higher Education" (funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark).

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER - UNIVERSITY OF POTSDAM
I am a development economist with a keen interest in Education, Inequality, and Gender economics. My research agenda focuses on understanding how formal or informal knowledge acquisition influences individuals' beliefs, preferences, and behavior. More specifically, I aim to study whether simple and scalable interventions developed to expand individuals’ human capital can reduce the prevalent disparities in social and economic dimensions and promote upward social mobility.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEACHER - UNIVERSITY OF ICELAND
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Iceland. I obtained my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Leipzig and earned my PhD at the University of Duisburg-Essen. As a sociologist, I employ quantitative analysis to identify the underlying causes of educational inequalities. My research focuses on the challenges of educational upward mobility in stratified education systems. In particular, I am interested in educational transitions, such as the transition from lower to upper secondary education or the transition to higher education and the subsequent educational attainment of upwardly mobile students.
